Shameless Promotion: Angelfall, Susan Ee

-How can you not love the cover?-

Ok, so this isn't actually going to be a review. :/

I probably will post up a review after I re-read the book, to get a fresh feel for it, but not in this post.

INSTEAD, What I am going to do here is shamelessly promote Miss Ee's book, since the librarians have decided to order it. (Thank you again.) After seeing the 'take a picture' contest I was kind of inspired to go and create a very small collection of pictures for the book.

Sharing is caring. I love this book, and I want to share it with you all. :)
And I feel that posting up pictures may draw your attention more than a review anyways.

I guess I'll start with the goodreads summary:

It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

This is a paranormal-romance book. It seems typical, and it kind of is, but somehow it's different. Maybe it's because the book focuses more on the plot than the romance itself, and there is no insta-love. Maybe I like the awesome world and character building. Maybe I like the clever dialogue. Could it be that I like the combination of all these things...yes, yes it could. Anyways. On to the photos.

My first picture was inspired by the opening line:
"Ironically, since the attacks, the sunsets have been glorious. Outside our condo window, the sky flames like a bruised mango in vivid orange, reds, and purples. The clouds catch on fire with sunset colors, and I'm almost scared those of us caught below will catch on fire too."

Ok, not QUITE sunset colors, but I'd been trying for a couple of days to get the beautiful purples and oranges I so desperately wanted, and nada. This is the closest I could get. Oh well. I liked that it looked kind of bright, but scary at the same time, similar to the angels in the book. :)

I drew out a draft for the second and third photos, and I ended up going with a feather as the kind of collective theme in both:

Urgh, my hand looks manly.
Whatever. I liked the 'scared' feel of the smudge effect, so I knew I wanted to use it in a photo somewhere. The color red can really mean anything, I was thinking of blood when I used it, but it can also be used to represent a sense of urgency or danger. Something of that sort. Also, the feather is white because Raffe's feather is white, simple enough.

Picture #3:

I liked using chalk, so I kept to that medium with this picture. :)
The design of the wings themselves, is not mine. I google searched it and found one that I liked enough, and ending up using this one. I was imagining those outlines in chalk of people when they die, I thought it would be cool to show Raffe's wings 'dying' in this aspect. Kind of like Penryn found a crime scene left behind by the angels.

Fourth and final picture:

A hidden house in the forest. I don't want to go into tooooooo many details, or i'll hit some spoilers. Kind of like a beacon of light, thus not as dark or evil looking as the other pictures. :)

So, yeah. This was mainly just a fun way to pass the time, as well as promoting the book.

HAPPY READING!
