Hex Hall - Rachel Hawkins

Hex Hall is a delightfully entertaining and fun read. It was absolutely hilarious. Exeptional! Movie please?

I adored Sophie- she was very easy to like and care about, and I loved how I was able to relate to her on so many levels. I laughed out loud many times at Sophie's sarcastic, humorous remarks. What I love the most about her is that she doesn't run away from awkward moments. She stands right up and says what is on her mind- there were many times where I was blushing and hiding under the covers for her! I admire her personality and her strength, especially in the end when she finds out that all she had thought to be true is a lie. I was shocked, but happy, that there was finally a protagonist that didn't run away and hide under a rock at the first sign of danger. She doesn't just turn a blind eye when weird things start happening around her. And she's interested in learning the truth, even though it may be a tough pill to swallow. And then there is Archer. Oh dear; yet another lead male who I have fallen in love with- unconditionally and irrevocably. He is dark and mysterious, sarcastic and witty, fun and just PERFECT. Even though he's not exactly one of the good guys... I can't forget Cal. He's such an intriguing character, and I hope that he will play a larger role in the next few installments.

Hawkins is a gifted writer. She knows exactly when to be absurdly hilarious and when to be series. The entire book was pitch-perfect. Hex Hall was the perfect mix of intense, sad, hilarious, mysterious, cute, and action-packed. It's an enjoyable read with a steady pace and a great climax. I love how it centers around Sophie unraveling the mystery of her ancestry and learning the dark secret behind her powers. The ending was very unexpected and there were many twists and turns along the way that I didn't see coming. Rachel Hawkins resolves most of the issues throughout the story, but there are still a few loose ends allowing for an interesting sequel.

Overall, a wonderful book. I would recommend it to teens who enjoy paranormal fiction, mysteries, and sarcastic light reads!
