Pollyanna by Eleanor Porter

''Just breathing isn't living!'' Pollyanna
-Pollyanna, Eleanor Porter

This book is about a wonderful girl called Pollyanna and her unique game. Little orphan, daughter of a penniless priest and his once rich wife, after her parents die, comes to live with her aunt (her mom's sister). However, her life isn't easy as poor aunt Polly can turn Pollyanna's life into a real nightmare. Still Pollyanna doesn't give in, plays her amazing game and makes people around her feel better.

Her game is called ''glad game'' and was taught to her by her father. The game consists of finding something to be glad about in every situation. It originated in an incident one Christmas when Pollyanna, who was hoping for a doll in the missionary barrel, found only a pair of crutches inside. How can you be happy about having a pair of crutches instead of a doll? Simply! You should be glad because ... you don't need them!

After I finished reading Pollyanna for the first time, I felt light and positive and for a long time. The book is really good and very inspirational) I

It's not just a story of a girl who always looked for reasons to be happy, it's a handbook how to make world better. It's not only about positive, it's about kindness, love and friendship. We have thousands of reasons to be in a nasty mood and complain about nothing, but it's just a bad habit to see negative everywhere. And you just can get rid of it. And Pollyanna show us that there always is something to be happy about. If everyone played her ''glad game'', there would be more smiles and less complaining about how difficult life is. Life is short, so value it and don't spoil it by seeing only negative. There's something positive everywhere, you just have to find it. As Sophocles said ''Look and you'll find it''.

My rating is 9/10 because I didn't like the style of writing (the book was written in 1913!). Yet, I recommend it to everyone. Ah, and the movie is pretty good, too (the 2003 one).

P.S. There is even a Pollyanna principle named after her)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollyanna_principle
