Eon by Allison Goodman is a story about a cripple who trains to become the Rat Dragoneye. Dragoneyes are the twelve lords who reside in ancient china and help bring good weather and deflect typhoons with the help of their respective dragons. The dragons correspond to the Chinese zodiac, and of the twelve animals from the zodiac only 11 are present, until the day the rat dragon must choose, and Eon brings out the Mirror Dragon. He tries to complete his training without the help of the mirror Dragoneye before him, while hiding the fact that he has no idea how to call his dragon, and that he is actually a she.I found this book to be interesting, a different story line with different characters. However I felt that it was badly written. It would go on describing and describing at points, and then during points of action it felt forced and unnecessary. Some of the characters where absurdly overpowered, the protagonist for example had an extreme advantage over her enemies and the other dragoneyes. I give this book a 6/10.
I read this series about 2 years ago and i thought Eon was great. I couldn't wait to find the next book a nd read it. I can;t really remember the writing style, but i think i'd rate the books an 8/10. i really like books where there's a strong female character. What is Dragons about?
