Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson

"Ashely Hannigan is a Philadelphia high school student who doesn’t care about the prom. It’s pretty much the only good thing that happens there, and everyone plans to make the most of it—especially Ash’s best friend, Natalia, who’s the head of the committee and has prom stars in her eyes. Then the faculty advisor is busted for taking the prom money and Ash finds herself roped into putting together a gala dance. But she has plenty of help—from her large and loving (if exasperating!) family, from Nat’s eccentric grandmother, from the principal, from her fellow classmates. And in making the prom happen, Ash learns some surprising things about making her life happen, too."

The author, if you haven't noticed, is also the same author that wrote the story 'Speak'. I haven't read Speak myself so I don't know if these books are similar or anything, but I pretty much enjoyed this novel. Judging the novel by it's cover, you may think that this novel is going to be about one of those cheesy love stories about prom, but it sure surprised me of how what it actually was about. Rating: 7.5/10.  This isn't really my type of novel because I expected to be more of a romantic, sentimental kind of novel.

  1. LOVE THIS AUTHOR!
    Anyways,
I actually haven't read this one (Wintergirls, Twisted and Speak are the only ones so far), but it does seem kind of cheesy. I guess from your review it's not though. :)
