Bright Young Things by Anna Godbersen is about two girls who escape from their dreary farm town life and move to the big city. Naive Letty Larkspur is convinced she'll make it big as a singer. Cordelia Grey goes with her under the pretense that she believes in Letty, but in reality she's going in search of her long lost father - billionaire gangster Darius Grey. When things fall apart, Letty is left alone in New York befriending a group of friends and making a living selling cigarettes, flowers, and sweets at a club. Cordelia though living in luxury in her father's house feels like an outsider but quickly befriends and falls in love with the heir to the competing family. There's only one person Cordelia can trust her new found life and that's Astrid Donal, a socialite who'se completely taken with Cordelia's older brother Charlie.
I hated Cordelia with a burning passion of a thousand suns. She was so needy and whiny, every complaint she had should have been hashtagged with #RichKidProblems or #1stWorldProblems. The moment she became daughter to Darius Grey, she completely forgot about her so called best friend Letty. Astrid was annoying as well, but less so, her romance with Charlie made her forgiveable. Letty despite her naivete, worked her butt off going after her dreams.
I'd give this novel a 7/10
