13 to Life by Shannon Delany |
Jessie Gillmansen's life changed when her mother died and she had been there to witness it. Now even her small hometown of Junction is changing. Mysterious dark things are happening, and all Jessie wants is to avoid more change. But while showing a hot new guy around Junction High, she's about to discover a whole new type of change. Pietr Rusakova is more than good looks and a fascinating accent - he's a guy with a dangerous secret. And his very existence is sure to bring big trouble to Jessie's small town. Seems like change is the one thing Jessie can't avoid.
This book is just so.. ARGH. I'm not sure how to explain but I'll attempt. After having the whole world be aware of the plot of Twilight, it seems like you can guess everything that will happen in this book. The book is about Pietr being a wolf. There, I said it. But Jessie doesn't find this out until the VERY END! It's sooo annoying because after you're done reading 1/5th of the book, you as the reader, have already figured this out. The author makes Jessie seem dumber then she is, and it just annoys the heck out of me! But I can't trash the author anymore. She does get some credit because the story line is unique. It's intriguing because c'mon, wolves and dealing? Stuff's getting intense, haha. The book was interesting, and it did have its own information that got added onto what we learn in Twilight (see what I did there?). I did find some confusing parts in the book. In the story, they kept saying something like "Russian heritage", "it's what we are" etc..etc.. which really confused me because I'm not sure if the author was saying that every Russian could turn into a wolf or something else. Another intriguing part was something about birthdays and after 13.. living life to the fullest? I wasn't planning on reading the second book, but hey, the author got one part right, and that's leaving us a cliff hanger. Maybe I will read the second book in the series. Maybe not. Eh, this book is a 6/10. Not too shabby, but could've been better.
