The Boy In The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

"When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance.

But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different to his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences."

I read this book as a grade 7 novel study as I remembered, but I just came across the thoughts of this book..I watched the movie as well and I thought that they were both incredibly touching to me. Watching the movie made me cry and reading the book made my heart warm and just.. I don't know how to explain it, but I sure had compassionate feelings to this novel. I would rate this book a 10/10 and the vocabulary in the book just improved and strengthened my knowledge.
Ask for the movie trailer..:

  1. I read this book as well! I felt slightly apprehensive at times, but that may be because the writing is so well done, it made me feel emotional. I haven't watched the movie yet, and I am wondering if I should. Is the movie as good as the book? Better? Worse?

    1. I don't remember the movie quite well, but I would say that they are similar. I would say the book is probably slightly better because of it's high vocabulary and strong descriptions.

    1. Haha, totally agreed. Like most books, there would be boring parts, but the ending just intrigued me the most and I thought it was incredibly.. morbid. :/

    1. I know that concentration camps were real, but I think this story fiction, at least I hope it is.
A novel with such a depressing ending seems so despairing that it seems unrealistic.
