Mockingjay is the third and last book in the Hunger Games trilogy. I'm pretty sure most of you know about the series, but in general, Katniss Everdeen, a girl from district 12 is forced to fight to the death with 23 other kids, and when she and her district partner, Peeta, survive the Capitol wants revenge. I know it's a horrible summary, but it kidda is the general idea. So in this book, the rebels have risen and all the districts are uprising against the Capitol. I really need to practice my summary's.
This book was actually kind of a disappointment to me. It was too busy, for example when certain characters died, I couldn't even make myself cry, there was just too much going on. In some cases i didn't even realize they for dead until a few pages after. I would reccomend this book to fans of Catching Fire and The Hunger Games, but don't get your hopes up.

I thought this picture did a pretty good summary of the book... |
I totally agree! I loved Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and then I wen't and read Mockingjay and I was so dissapointed! The ending was horrible, and like you said- everyone died! The first part was good, but Collins tried to make the end super unexpected and it just didn't work. It was unexpected, but it was also extremely confusing and just crappy. I didn't understand the thing with her not killing President Snow, and what the hell was going on when she was trapped in that room? What is going to happen with the rest of society now that the capitol is gone? Why is she confined to district 12? What was the war all about? I feel like instead of clearing up everything (as a final book should) it created countless questions that will never be answered. I did not like it at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both of you, but it seems to be that many people enjoyed the last book the best. Personally, I didn't enjoy the sad ending, yet I'm not always looking for happy endings either. I guess I just like reading unpredictable novels, so the ending wasn't so bad, having its positive and negative traits. A few people that talked to about Mockingjay commented that Mockingjay was by far the most intricate novel that they have every read..
ReplyDeleteIntricate? Hardly. This was boring, stifling, and the worst of the trilogy. I would recommend The Hunger Games for anyone to read, but I would NEVER recommend this book.
ReplyDeleteIt is intricate in it's own way. Suzanne Collins has crammed so many different plots into the one book. Yes, it was boring and stifling , but you have to admit that it is incredibly detailed and has an intricate storyline. Overall though, it sucked. I agree- worst of the triology.
DeleteHaha I didn't even read the book yet but all of you already gave me a good impression of what it would be like! My expectations aren't going to go very high.

ReplyDeleteI actually did love reading this book although i was really disappointed at the ending when a lot of the people who really mattered to Katniss in The Hunger Games, no longer mattered or are there to matter to Katniss. For example, Gale, Katniss' mother and Prim all disappear from her life and people who didnt really matter to her in the first book of the trilogy are the one's who're sticking with her. I really did not like how the book leaves some questions unanswered for the readers to read between the lines and try to figure it out by yourself. Also, I dont like how Katniss is a complete and utter damsel in distress (no offense to others who think otherwise) but REALLY?! Katniss was so independant in The Hunger Games (the book) and now she's... well, let's just say, very dependant on others. All in all though, i really did enjoy reading the series but not really the decline of Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire.
