So one of my absolute favorite authors (
Robert Liparulo) shared this on his facebook page, and I though you (as a reading club) would find it interesting. The rest of this post is a copy/paste of his facebook post:
Forbes just released a list of the highest paid authors of 2012:
15. Rick Riordan ("Percy Jackson”) … $13 million
14. Ken Follett … $14 million
13. Stephenie Meyer (“Twilight”) … $14 million
12. George R.R. Martin ("Song of Ice and Fire” series) … $15 million
11. J.K. Rowling ("Harry Potter”) … $17 million
10. Dean Koontz … $19 million
9. Suzanne Collins ("Hunger Games”) … $20 million
8. Danielle Steel … $23 million
7. Nora Roberts … $23 million
6. Bill O’Reilly … $24 million
5. Jeff Kinney ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series) … $25 million
4. John Grisham … $26 million
3. Janet Evanovich … $33 million
2. Stephen King … $39 million
1. James Patterson … $94 million
Interesting that all but one are fiction writers and that five write primarily for young adults
Can't believe Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) is more successful than JK Rowling D:<... Something is definitely wrong with this generation!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe James Patterson is #1. The only stuff he writes worth reading is Max Ride...
Deleteand by a wide margin too....more than half of King's earnings!
DeletePatterson is number one because he writes 382570239045328905 books- most of which are mediocre. Out of that 382570239045328905, there are about 5 that are stellar (Maximum Ride). Therefore, he has a good rep and people buy his OTHER books, even though they are crap. I would expect him to be up there, but no way in hell does he deserve #1. As for the Wimpy Kid guy, ugh. That disgusts me. I can't stand Wimpy Kid of Geronimo Stilton (never could) and those authors are both top 20 most paid!
DeleteHOLY. I swear, I had no idea that book authors get paid this much...
ReplyDeleteAnd is it for every book that they publish??
Deleteit's how much money they made in the past year
Deleteso total sales
for all their books
oh well, than that makes more sense.
DeleteIf you did total overall (instead of past year) Rowling would be #1. Her book sales have decreased a lot because most people already own the books or can get them from the library, since they are really old.
DeleteThanks for posting this! :)
