Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

File:WillGrayson.jpgThe novel follows two boys who both go by the name Will Grayson. The first Will, whose name is always correctly capitalized, is described as trying to live his life without being noticed. This is complicated by the fact that his best friend, Tiny Cooper, described as "the world's largest person who is really, really gay" and "the world's gayest person who is really, really large", is not the type to go around unnoticed. Tiny is also, throughout the novel, trying to create an autobiographical musical, which further draws attention to himself and everyone around him.
The other will grayson, whose name is never capitalized, goes through his life without anything good to hold onto besides an online friendship with someone who goes by the name Isaac. Intent on meeting up with Isaac, will grayson sets up an encounter one night in Chicago but eventually finds out that Isaac was invented by a girl named Maura.  What ensues brings both characters together and changes both of their lives forever in ways they could never have guessed or imagined.
I really enjoyed this book, it dealt with LGBT issues, rocky friendships, and love.  John Green's parts are as always, satirical beneath the serious text.  His characters always include a certain amount of self-deprecation that makes them just charming enough for the reader to fall in love with them.  David Levithan's parts were filled with the anger and angst of a "typical teenage boy" but the way that he wrote it made it really fun and enjoyable to read.
A definite 10/10

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

The Fault in our Stars by John Green was a fantastic book.  It's a funny story about two cancer patients who meet in a cancer help group, and subsequently fall in love.

It isn't as bad as it seems, a humor novel about cancer? Unheard of.
But it's really funny, it's not making fun of people with cancer, it's portraying them as strong independent people who are extremely sarcastic and use their superior intelligence to trump those who are less then brilliant and more then slightly offensive.
And like every cancer novel, there are some really sad parts where Green rips your heart out and smashes it into a million little pieces and laughs while he does it.
It was so refreshing to have a humorous cancer novel.
10/10.

An Abundance of Katherines - John Green

I've already said it a million and one times, but the need to tag it onto every post about his novels is always there in the back of my min.  John Green is a literary genius.  An Abundance of Katherines (AAOK) is no exception to the brilliance of his work.  AAOK revolves around a late teen whose experience in the relationship field consists of nineteen girls named Katherine.  Heartbroken from being dumped by Katherine the 19th (K-19) The protagonist Colin goes on a road trip with his friend Hassan only to end up in a backwards town claiming to house the dead body of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.  Like all his books, he delves into the deepest parts of the characters lives but brings to the table an unexpected humor, enough that stifling laughter is just not an option.
